City Harvest is a not-for-profit organization that delivers food to about 600 soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and community food programs in New York. City Harvest Inc. distributes more than 25 million pounds of excess food each year, feeding some 260,000 men, women, and children each week. Founded by Helen verDuin Palit in 1982, City Harvest works with more than 1,900 food donors such as Tropicana, Dannon, Whole Foods, D'Agostino Supermarkets, and Au Bon Pain, as well as roughly 28,000 financial supporters, to bring food to the city streets.City Harvest Inc. work to connect low-income New Yorkers with access to federal nutrition programs, a safe and diverse regional food supply, equal opportunities to consume healthy and affordable food, and economically viable and environmentally sound communities.
