Tortuga Rum Co. Ltd.
Founded in 1984 by Robert and Carlene Hamaty, Tortuga Rum company is owned by their daughter, Monique Hamaty-Simmonds, and her husband Marcus. Tortuga Rum makes goodies approved by pirates of the Caribbean. Despite its name, the Cayman Island company does not focus on the liquid libation favored by pirates, but rather on rum cakes, including chocolate-, coconut-, coffee-, and banana-flavored varieties -- all made with five-year-old premium Tortuga rum. The company's other delectables include rum fudge, rum truffles, gourmet coffees, jellies, and sauces. It also operates a mail-order cake-of-the-month club. Tortuga Rum products are distributed by sister company Miami-based Tortuga Imports.
