Wildlife Conservation Society
The Wildlife Conservation Society, founded in 1895, has the clear mission to save wildlife and wild places across the globe. Wildlife Conservation Society story began in the early 1900’s when we successfully helped the American bison recover on the Western Plains. The not-for-profit group operates New York City's Bronx Zoo, the New York Aquarium, and the "city zoos" of Central Park, Prospect Park, and Queens. Wildlife Conservation Society environmental education programs are used in schools throughout the US and in other nations. Wildlife Conservation Society has ongoing efforts in more than 50 countries to protect endangered species and ecosystems. Much of the funding for the society's work comes from visitors and from grants. WCS was founded in 1895 as the New York Zoological Society.
