Window To The World Communications (WTTW) broadcasts arts, children's, current event, humanities, and science programming via its Chicago television station (WTTW Channel 11, with the nation's largest viewer base) and radio station (98.8 WFMT). Window To The World Communications, Inc. programming focuses on events and issues that effect the Chicago metropolitan area: special emphasis is given to cultural and educational topics. WTTW is a not-for-profit corporation governed by about 50 trustees representing the greater Chicago community. Window To The World Communications, Inc. is licensed by the FCC as a public TV station and is funded and governed by the community it serves. The station, started by Inland Steel chairman Edward Ryerson, began broadcasting in 1955.
