GE, L&T partner to manufacture subsea equipment

American conglomerate GE today said it has signed a pact with engineering firm Larsen & Toubro to manufacture subsea equipment for future deep water projects in Krishna-Godavari basin on the eastern coast of India.

“Contributing to India’s exploration and production (E&P) activities in the oil and gas sector, GE has signed an exclusive MoU with L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering, a wholly-owned subsidiary of L&T,” the company said in a statement.

The telecom major reported a decline of 74% y-o-y in its net profit at Rs 217 crore in the June quarter. During the quarter, revenues grew by around 8% and total expenditure grew by 15% at R9,486.6 crore and R8,331.5 crore, respectively.

The BSE Telecom Index ended Tuesday’s trading session at 1278.59, down 1.15% or 14.85 points. Shares of Tata Communications and Reliance Communication declined between 2% and 3%. Shares of Bharti Airtel were down by 0.87% to close at Rs 348.85.

NEW DELHI: In a first, Maruti Suzuki will start transporting its cars through National Waterways-1 (on River Ganga) from Varanasi to Kolkata. Cars are proposed to be transported from Varanasi to Kolkata on NW-1as a pilot run which is scheduled for Friday.

The requirement of logistic support for rolling in and out of cars from the vessels to shore and vice-versa has been done in a trial run at Kolkata.

Ford India has cut prices of its Figo hatchback and the Asipire sedan to increase sales of its models. Ford India said that it has slashed prices on the two models in the range of Rs 25,000 and Rs 91,000.

The move comes at a time when Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motors India have hiked the prices of their models citing an increase in the input costs because of rupee depreciation.

Top stock exchange BSE has reported a 40% increase in its consolidated net profit at Rs 52.72 crore for the first quarter ended June 2016.

BSE, which is currently working towards an initial public offer (IPO), had a net profit of Rs 37.52 crore during the April-June period of 2015-16, latest update available with BSE (formerly known as Bombay Stock Exchange) showed.

The recent surge in international coal prices and pet coke may prove to be a boon for Coal India as it can now expect increased sales, particularly of the higher coal grades, to both the thermal and non-thermal consumers.

Imported coal prices, late June onwards, surged by over 30%. This month, imported coal of 6,000 GCV (gross calorific value) costs about $ 65 or Rs. 4348 a tonne on an average while pet coke surged by 73%. During January, pet coke was priced at $ 53 a tonne which has now increased to $ 92 or Rs. 6153 a tonne.

Mahindra & Mahindra on Wednesday reported a 12.35% rise in net profit for the fiscal first quarter, meeting expectations, helped by strong sales of its sport utility vehicles and trucks.

Mahindra's standalone net profit for the April-June quarter rose to 9.55 billion rupees ($143.07 million) from 8.50 billion rupees in the previous year. Analysts, on average, expected the company to report a net profit of 8.83 billion rupees, Thomson Reuters data showed.
