Theragenics Corporation
Theragenics' seeds, sold under the names TheraSeed and I-Seed, are tiny rice-sized radioactive implants used to fight prostate cancer. The devices (known more generally as brachytherapy seeds) are a common treatment for early-stage prostate cancer; they release radiation within the tumor that kills cancerous cells with minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Theragenics sells the devices directly to hospitals and through distribution agreements throughout the US and in Europe. In addition to its brachytherapy business, Theragenics' surgical products unit makes vascular and wound care products, including sutures and guidewires.
