Lombard Medical Technologies keeps the blood flowing through your veins with its cardiovascular medical devices. The company's flagship product is Aorfix, an endovascular stent graft approved in the European Union for treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (balloon-like enlargements of the aorta in the abdomen). Lumenis sheds new light on skin problems. The company makes medical devices that use intense pulsed light (IPL), lasers, and radiofrequency technology to treat aesthetic problems (lesions, wrinkles, acne, and the like) as well as a wide range of other conditions. The firm's proprietary IPL technology converts the light source into thermal energy. Aesthetic systems include Lumenis One to remove hair and rejuvenate skin and UltraPulse used to treat fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and discoloration. The UltraPulse SurgiTouch and VersaPulse systems are used for urology, neurology, and ENT (ear, nose, and throat) surgical procedures. Lumenis also makes ophthalmic laser products for vision correction.

MacKay Life Sciences (formerly Biofield) is trying to blaze a trail in the diagnostic equipment market with its Biofield Diagnostic System, which employs single-use sensors to detect and examine changes associated with breast cancer. The system is based on the theory that epithelial cancers are characterized by changes in the electrical charge of the affected tissue; the sensors analyze these changes and identify if a lesion is malignant or benign. The process requires less than 20 minutes, and has possible applications to cancers of the ovaries, skin, prostate, and colon. Director James MacKay, through the MacKay Group, owns a majority interest in MacKay Life Sciences.

MAKO Surgical Corp. developed and markets the MAKOplasty partial knee resurfacing system, a minimally invasive alternative to traditional knee replacement surgery for patients with early- to mid-stage osteoarthritis. Proprietary components of the system consist of visualization technology and a robotic arm (RIO) that help orthopedic surgeons prepare the knee joint for insertion of MAKO's resurfacing implants (RESTORIS) through a small incision. With marketing approval in the US and Europe, MAKO Surgical markets to hospitals and surgeons via a direct sales force and independent orthopedic product agents and distributors.
