The Pew Charitable Trusts
The Pew Charitable Trusts is driven by the power of knowledge to solve today’s most challenging problems. Pew applies a rigorous, analytical approach to improve public policy, inform the public and stimulate civic life. The Pew Charitable Trusts partner with a diverse range of donors, public and private organizations and concerned citizens who share our commitment to fact-based solutions and goal-driven investments to improve society. Among the nation's largest private foundations, The Pew Charitable Trusts was established in 1948 in memory of Sun Oil founder Joseph Pew and his wife Mary by four of their children. Seven trusts were created between 1948 and 1979 to promote public health and welfare and to strengthen communities. With about $5.9 billion in assets, The Pew Charitable Trusts distributes more than $140 million in grants annually to charitable organizations in culture, education, environment, health and human services, public policy, and religion. The Pew Trusts has strong ties to Philadelphia and allocates a portion of its grants to programs in that area.
