The Nature Conservancy
The Nature Conservancy is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to preserving the diversity of Earth's wildlife by saving some 120 million acres of land, 5,000 miles of rivers, and 100 marine areas in every US state and more than 30 countries worldwide. The Nature Conservancy originally carried out its mission by simply buying land, but it has evolved to incorporate other methods to further its goals. In addition to land acquisition, the organization partners with government, corporate, and private entities to reduce harmful use of natural areas, to create conservation-friendly public policy, and to increase conservation funding. The Nature Conservancy was founded in 1951 and uses about 80% of its funds on projects.
