Special Olympics wants everyone to feel special. Special Olympics, Inc. offers year-round athletic training and competition in about 30 summer and winter sports for adults and children with intellectual disabilities. More than 3.1 million athletes in about 175 countries take part in the group's programs. Special Olympics believes participation in its activities helps athletes improve physical fitness and motor skills while developing self-confidence. Special Olympics, Inc. support comes mainly from contributions made in response to direct-mail campaigns and from individual and corporate sponsorships and contributions. The late Eunice Kennedy Shriver organized the First International Special Olympic Games in 1968.
