American Booksellers Association, Inc.
The American Booksellers Association was founded on November 15, 1900, to represent the interests of the retail booksellers of America. ABA held its first convention in 1901 and in the 100-plus years hence has continued to provide its members with education, research, information, and advocacy. From the first edition of the Book Buyer’s Handbook to the birth of IndieBound in 2008, the ABA has always existed to serve its diverse, knowledgeable, and passionate membership.
The American Booksellers Association (ABA) offers strength in numbers for independent booksellers in a bind over how to battle the superstores. The organization is dedicated to protecting book retailers' interests. For an annual fee, ABA provides its members with an annual trade conference, industry news and information, professional development services, and advertising and promotional opportunities. Its members include independent bookstores and chains, university stores, and specialty shops. To help members compete against large Internet booksellers, ABA has launched an online sales network, BookSense.com.
