Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad Company
Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad was formed in 1907. Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad provides switching services on its network of more than 50 miles of mainline track in Indiana and Illinois. The company serves the Chicago area, which is North America's primary railroad hub. Indiana Harbor Belt handles traffic from industrial customers, such as chemical and metal producers, and interchanges traffic with about 15 other rail lines. Steel companies account for the largest share of the company's freight traffic. Conrail, which is controlled by Norfolk Southern and CSX, owns 51% of Indiana Harbor Belt; Canadian Pacific Railway owns 49%.
