Los Alamos National Security, LLC
Los Alamos National Security (LANS) operates the Los Alamos National Laboratory, a multi-program research center known for work on nuclear weapons and national security issues. Armed with an annual budget exceeding $2 billion, scientists perform applied and basic research in such areas as earth science, materials science, and physics. As part of the Manhattan Project, the lab developed the first atomic bombs during World War II. One of the national laboratories under the supervision of the US Department of Energy (DOE), it was established in 1943 and is funded by the DOE. LANS is comprised of Bechtel National, the University of California, The Babcock & Wilcox Company, and Washington Group International.
