Habitat for Humanity, more than 1.7 million people worldwide know there's no place like home. The mission of the not-for-profit, ecumenical Christian organization is to provide adequate and affordable shelter. Habitat for Humanity International, Inc. has built more than 350,000 houses at cost for families who demonstrate a need and are willing to invest "sweat equity" during construction. Homeowners make payments on no-interest mortgages; Habitat funnels the funds back into the construction of homes for others. Habitat for Humanity International, Inc. operates in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico, in addition to affiliates in more than 90 countries. Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 by Linda Fuller and her late husband Millard.
