In late 2008 Storm Cat Energy placed its US subsidiaries under bankruptcy protection.

Strata Oil & Gas is a publicly-traded company leading the field in the exploration and development of bitumen from carbonates in Alberta. Formerly a provider of knowledge worker automation software used to manage relationships, organize time allocations, and synchronize data, Strata Oil & Gas Inc. has sold its software assets and shifted its focus to exploration and development of oil sands and heavy oil in Canada. Strata has is focusing on carbonate-hosted bitumen deposits in the Peace River area of Alberta. Strata Oil & Gas Inc. total land holdings consist of approximately 112,692 acres with 111,692 acres (165 sections) located in the Peace River area. In 2007 Strata Oil & Gas Inc. announced a major bitumen discovery.

Stratic Energy Corporation is a Canadian-incorporated international oil and gas company involved in the production, development, appraisal and exploration of hydrocarbons. Stratic Energy Corporation key interests are in the North Sea (UK and Dutch sectors) and Italy, with further interests in Turkey, Syria, Slovenia and Morocco. The oil and gas exploration independent identifies international exploration opportunities in high-impact oil patches that are either underdeveloped or in the early stages of exploration. Since its formation in 1997, Stratic has acquired very early exploration phase concessions, and then partnered with major oil companies to develop these prospects.
