General Information
The State of Andhra Pradesh is strategically located
in the Indian sub continent. It has the second largest
coastal line in the country with an area of 970 Km.
Andhra Pradesh is increasingly being recognized, as
the hub of industrial activity in South India .It is
the third largest state in the country over an area
of 276754 sq kms, and a population of 76 million.
Andhra Pradesh is bordered on the south by Tamil Nadu
state, on the west by Karnataka state, on the north
and northwest by Maharashtra state, on the northeast
by Madhya Pradesh and Orissa states, and on the east
by the Bay of Bengal. The northern area of Andhra Pradesh
is mountainous. The highest peak Mahendragiri rises
1500 m above the sea level. The climate is generally
hot and humid. Annual rainfall is 125 cm.
The capital city of the State is Hyderabad, which is
cosmopolitan, convenient and accessible.

Demographic Information

by a large pool of scientific and technical manpower
(75% of India's engineering graduates come from the
four southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil

- Andhra Pradesh is the third largest state in the
country with an area of 2,76,754 Kms. It is ranked
among the fastest growing state in the country with
an 8.35 per cent annual growth.

in the country.
- Andhra Pradesh is a mineral-rich state, ranked second

an installed capacity for generating 10273.44 MW,
the second highest in the country and many projects
are under implementation to generate 4715 MW by 2009.
In comparison to the other states of India, Andhra
Pradesh has progressed furthest in reforming its energy
sector (privatisation, separation of generation from
transmission and distribution). Andhra Pradesh was
ranked the best state award for power for the year
2005-06.
- Andhra Pradesh has the distinction of being known
as the Cement and powerhouse of India. It is also
the leading producer of paper.
- Andhra Pradesh's pharmaceuticals sector is internationally
known for its skills in chemical synthesis and process
engineering on the one hand, and its commitment to
the invention of new molecules on the other.
- Andhra Pradesh is home to many manufacturing and
service industries such as Information Technology,
Bulk Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, Agro Processing;
Mineral based Industries, Engineering Industries,
Textiles, Leather Goods, Gems and Jewellery.
- Andhra Pradesh has immensely contributed to the
pool of IT professionals in the economy. Nearly 23
per cent of the software professionals in the United
States of America are from Andhra Pradesh.
- Andhra Pradesh occupies a Place of pride in the
country in the IT and IT Enabled Services activities.
Most villages in Andhra Pradesh have been covered
by the optical fiber network of BSNL and Reliance
providing the communications network.
- The exports from Andhra Pradesh are growing at 10
per cent every year.
- Andhra Pradesh has skilled and dedicated workforce
and a large number of universities, technical colleges,
ITIs, polytechnics etc. With a view to foster agriculture
research and development, Andhra Pradesh has one Agriculture
University and seven Agricultural Colleges, strong
R&D infrastructure and institutions such as CCMB,
ICRISAT, NARM, MANAGE and NIRD.
