Volvo Cars is just not betting big on hybrid and electric cars globally but has also given some real good thoughts on bringing in hybrid and electric vehicles in India soon. Volvo Cars India confirmed that it will start local assembly of its plug-in hybrid Volvo XC90 Excellence from its Bengaluru plant in order to stay ahead of its target to sell 1 million hybrid/electric cars by 2025 worldwide.

Volvo Cars has announced that, from 2025 onwards, at least 25% of the plastics used in every newly launched Volvo car will be made from recycled material. The company has also urged auto industry suppliers to work closely with car-makers to develop next-gen components that are as sustainable as possible, especially with regards to containing more recycled plastics.

Mumbai: India’s fourth-largest commercial vehicle maker, Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles (VECV) Ltd, a joint venture between Eicher Motors Ltd and Volvo AB, plans to widen its range of medium-duty trucks that run on compressed natural gas (CNG), according to a senior executive.

During the quarter ending September, VECV will launch a CNG truck with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) up to 14 tonnes, said Shyam Maller, executive vice president, light and medium-duty trucks and buses.

Calcutta: Sweden's Volvo Car India will stop the production of its diesel powertrains in the next six years as it aggressively pursues its electric mobility vision. Globally, Volvo will start producing only petrol and electric models of its cars from 2019.

"In the next six years, we will completely shift away from diesel in line with our global policy," said Charles Frump, managing director, Volvo Car India, while inaugurating a showroom in Calcutta on Friday.
