After its recent collaboration with World Innovation Labs (WiL) and LetsVenture in the last quarter of 2014, Green house Ventures (GHV) has now tied the knot with NASSCOM and Google India’s MD Rajan Anandan, in its ongoing effort to further strengthen the startup ecosystem in India.

Rajan Anandan, who is already associated with NASSCOM’s 10,000 Startups initiative, will also be joining the mentor board at GHV and will also provide valuable insights and perspectives on the Indian entrepreneurship ecosystem.

The National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) president R Chandrashekhar today said they expected no significant change in the Indian software industry’s growth projections made for the current year.

It may be recalled that the industry body of the country's IT and ITeS companies had earlier made a forecast of 13-15 per cent increase in Indian software exports during 2014-15. It said the software exports would rise to about $ 99 billion in the current year from an estimated $ 86 billion in 2013-14.

Underlining the government’s push towards e-governance, domestic electronics manufacturing, and innovation and entrepreneurship, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has invited captains of Indian software firms as well as their counterparts in the hardware segment for pre-Budget consultations. The meeting, scheduled for January 14, will also be attended by CEOs of several e-commerce companies and prominent start-ups.

MUMBAI: The business process outsourcing (BPO) industry, which until a few years ago had thousands of youngsters joining it, is not so cool anymore, thanks to more glamorous competitors such as startups and IT firms with high-end profiles. The National Association for Software & Services Companies, along with 11 BPO companies, now plans to confront this unpopularity head-on — college by college. The 11 firms partnering Nasscom include WNS, Genpact, Dell BPO, EXL and Cognizant BPO.

With the Indian IT services and business process management (BPM) industry key to maintain its cost advantage has started to explore tier II and III cities for expansion. Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kochi & Kolkata have emerges as front runners next only to Tier I cities or ‘Leader’ locations which continue to be the preferred choices for IT-BPM industry.

Nasscom, often criticised for paying more attention to the information technology (IT) services segment, has now set up a council focused on the internet and e-commerce segment. Headed by Info Edge founder Sanjeev Bikhchandani, the council has six members.

Info Edge owns several successful internet companies such as job portal naukri.com and online real estate classifieds website 99acres.com.

The information technology sector, India’s largest private-sector employer with 3.1 million direct jobs, will witness muted hiring activity this year. According to industry body Nasscom, growth in IT hiring in 2014-15 will be a moderate six per cent.

This year, the IT sector will see higher attrition rate and wage increase to the tune of 8-11 per cent, Nasscom said in its Annual HR Survey 2014. According to the report, the sector will add 170,000-180,000 employees this year.

Bangalore on Tuesday hosted Communications and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for the first time since his appointment.

The event was organised by information technology (IT) body Nasscom and software product think tank Indian Software Product Industry Round Table (iSPIRT). IT leaders raised concerns on policies and doing business in the country. Others shared their ideas on strengthening the Indian IT ecosystem.

The closed-door meetings will be attended by several leaders of the Indian IT services and software product sectors.

After receiving about 7,000 applications in the earlier rounds, information technology (IT) industry body Nasscom on Monday launched the third phase of its “10,000 start-up initiative”. The industry body expects to receive a “few thousand” applications in this round as well.

Launched by Nasscom in April 2013 with partners such as Google, Microsoft and Verisign, the initiative aims to nurture 10,000 start-ups in the next 10 years. Under this programme, Nasscom helps the selected start-ups get into several accelerator programmes, get venture capital or angel funding, put together a business plan, and provide assistance on several other aspects.
