The emergency department has 31 treatment suites staffed by 24-hour-a-day emergency physicians for the treatment of adults. Established in 1997, BayCare Health System operates 11 hospitals (more than 2,800 beds) that serve the residents of Tampa Bay and surrounding areas in Florida. The system's member hospitals (eight full-service acute-care facilities and three specialty units) are organized under the Morton Plant Mease, St. Anthony's, and St. Joseph's-South Florida Baptist hospital systems. Together, BayCare's hospitals offer a variety of specialty services ranging from orthopedics to cancer care to women's services. Bayfront Health System, operator of the coastal city's Bayfront Medical Center, a not-for-profit hospital housing some 500 acute care beds. Founded in 1906, the medical center provides general medical and surgical care, as well as emergency services, trauma care, and specialist care in areas such as rehabilitation, cancer treatment, and cardiology. The hospital also provides air-medical transport through its Bayflite helicopter program to a 15-county region. In addition to the medical center, Bayfront Health System includes several ancillary facilities, including urgent and primary care clinics and outpatient rehabilitation centers.
