You might say Copacol's business is fowl. The cooperative is one of Brazil's leading poultry slaughterers and processors, consisting of more than 4,360 members, a majority of whom are small farmers. Combined, the cooperative's daily chicken slaughter capacity is about 330,000 birds, from which it processes and sells refrigerated and frozen whole chickens and chicken parts, both domestically and internationally. The company also sells processed fish, beef, pork, and other products. Copacol was established in 1963 by Father Louise Luise and 32 farmers, and today runs nearly two dozen plants in Nova Aurora, Formosa do Oeste, Jesuitas, and Iracema do Oeste.
