Angel Mining will go to great lengths to find good mineral prospects. The mining company's main properties are located in Greenland; it also has exploration interests in Australia and Brazil. Angel Mining is on the lookout for gold, base metals, and tantalum (which is used mainly in electronics manufacturing). The company's Nalunaq gold mine commenced production in 2010. Its Black Angel Mining subsidiary (majority-owned) operates a zinc and lead project in Greenland. Several investment firms, including RAB Capital, Waterhouse Securities, and Rathbones, own sizable stakes in the company. Formerly called Angus & Ross, it changed its name in 2009.

Anglesey is anxious to get its hands on some gold, silver, or any other minerals, for that matter. Anglesey Mining owns zinc, copper, lead, gold, and silver properties at Parys Mountain, which is located north of the island of Anglesey in northern Wales. It also owns about half of publicly traded Labrador Iron Mines Ltd, which operates an iron mining project in Schefferville, Canada. Anglesey was created in 1984 to develop copper, zinc, and lead deposits at Parys Mountain, home to the largest known base metal deposits in the UK.

Anglo Aluminum has ditched black gold in favor of aluminum. The Canadian company is developing a bauxite property in West Africa. (Bauxite is the ore that is the primary raw ingredient in the manufacture of aluminum.) When it was called Navasota Resources, Anglo Aluminum was engaged in oil and gas exploration company. When economic growth in Asia led to a rapidly increased demand for aluminum, Anglo Aluminum went in search of bauxite and found it in Africa. Anglo Aluminum is developing a property in the Boke Bauxite Belt in Guinea. It changed its name from Navasota Resources in early 2010.

Anglo American's name might be a little misleading -- it's never been American. The UK-based company owns significant stakes in global producers of platinum (75% of Anglo Platinum) and diamonds (45% of De Beers S.A.). In addition, Anglo American has interests in ferrous and base metals and industrial minerals; it also is among the world's largest coal miners. Anglo American has spent much of the decade reorganizing its portfolio and has narrowed its focus. Though it used to have a majority stake in AngloGold Ashanti, Anglo American divested its remaining shares in 2009. The founding Oppenheimer family no longer controls Anglo American, though Nicky Oppenheimer, who chairs De Beers, sits on the board.

Anglo Pacific Group PLC is a global natural resources royalties company. The strategy of the Group is to expand its mineral royalty interests in low-cost, long-life mining assets. The Group achieves this through both direct acquisition and investment in projects at the development and production stage. It is a continuing policy of the Group to pay a substantial proportion of these royalties to shareholders as dividends. The Group is focused on projects in areas with low political risk that have defined resources and near-term production. The Group has both corporate finance and real-world mining experience and takes an active approach to each project to achieve better returns at reduced risk.

Anglo Platinum Limited is the world's leading primary producer of platinum group metals (PGMs) and accounts for about 40% of the world's newly mined platinum. The Company is listed on the JSE Limited. It delisted its secondary listing from the London Stock Exchange during 2009. The Group's mining operations were restructured in 2009. The former Rustenburg Section was split into the Bathopele, Khomanani, Thembelani, Khuseleka, and Siphumelele mines, while the former Amandelbult Section was split into the Tumela and Dishaba mines. Union Mine, Mogalakwena Mine and Twickenham Mine remained managed operations of the Group. In addition, the Group has a number of joint ventures. On 30 June 2009 Anglo Platinum sold and transferred control to Anooraq Resources (Anooraq) of an effective 51% of the formerly wholly owned Lebowa Platinum Mine (Lebowa) and an additional 1% of the Ga-Phasha, Boikgantsho and Kwanda joint-venture projects. The Group is also in joint venture with: ARM Mining Consortium Limited, a historically disadvantaged South African (HDSA) consortium, to operate the Modikwa Platinum Mine; Royal Bafokeng Resources, an HDSA partner, over the combined Bafokeng-Rasimone Platinum Mine (BRPM) and Styldrift properties; the Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela traditional community, who hold a 15% share in Union Mine; Eastern Platinum Limited (subsidiary of Lonmin Plc) and its HDSA partner, the Bapo-Ba-Mogale traditional community and Mvelaphanda Resources to operate the Pandora Joint Venture; and Xstrata Kagiso Platinum Partnership, to operate the Mototolo Mine. Anglo Platinum also has pooling-and sharing-arrangements with Aquarius Platinum (South Africa), covering the shallow reserves of the Aquarius Kroondal and Marikana mines that are contiguous with Anglo Platinum's Rustenburg mines. The Group's smelting and refining operations are wholly owned through Rustenburg Platinum Mines Limited and are situated in South Africa. These operations treat concentrates not only from the Group's wholly owned operations, but also from its joint ventures and third parties. Elsewhere in the world, the Group is developing the Unki Platinum Mine in Zimbabwe and is actively exploring in Brazil. It has exploration partners in Canada, Russia and China.

Anooraq Resources is a black economic empowerment (BEE) platinum group metals (PGM) mining, exploration and development company, with assets located on the Bushveld Igneous Complex of South Africa. The Bushveld Complex hosts numerous PGM mines and prospects, mainly within the Merensky and UG2 reefs and the Platreef mineralized horizons. Anooraq completed the acquisition of a controlling interest in Bokoni Platinum Mines (formerly Lebowa Platinum Mines) from Anglo Platinum in July 2009, and now operates this four-shaft mine complex, currently producing some 150 000 4E ounces on an annualised basis. The Bokoni acquisition also gives Anooraq controlling interests in the Ga-Phasha Project, located adjacent to Bokoni, and the Boikgantsho and Kwanda Projects. The six PGMs, namely platinum, palladium, rhodium, osmium, ruthenium and iridium, occur together in nature alongside nickel, copper and gold. These metals have uses across various technological and industrial fields, with the automotive and jewellery sectors being key. South Africa’s Bushveld Igneous Complex is host to the largest known PGM resource in the world, and 2009 platinum production is anticipated to be 4.725 million ounces, almost 80% of global output (source: Johnson Matthey). Anooraq has a primary listing on the TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV: ARQ), and secondary listings on the NYSE: AMEX (ARO) and the JSE Limited (JSE: ARQ).

Aquarius Platinum wants platinum lovers to pour it on. The company mines for platinum and other platinum group metals (PGMs) in South Africa's highly productive Bushveld Complex and in Zimbabwe through its 50% stake in Mimosa Investments. PGMs, including palladium and rhodium, are used in electronics, catalytic converters, and jewelry. Aquarius Platinum focuses on small deposits and a capital-intensive (mechanized) rather than a labor-intensive mining model. Founded in 1996, the company produces just about half a million ounces of PGM annually, mostly at its 50%-owned Kroondal mine (a partnership with Anglo Platinum).
