The company's service territory covers some 35 Pennsylvania counties. Pennsylvania-American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater service provider in Pennsylvania, is a subsidiary of the New Jersey-based American Water.

Portsmouth Water Limited serves an area of the UK extending from South East Hampshire to West Sussex, and from the River Meon to the River Arun. Portsmouth Water supplies about 160 million liters of water per day. Its 301,200 customers include industries, government establishments, and commercial businesses, as well as a residential population of 657,000. SAWS was formed in 1992 through a merger of three entities: the City Water Board, the City Wastewater Department, and the Alamo Water Conservation and Reuse District.

It also collects local mountain surface water from the watershed in the Santa Cruz Mountains, which is then treated at San Jose Water's two treatment plants. This local surface water accounts for about 7% of the water utility's total supply. Purchased water accounts for more than 40%.
