HOM Furniture, Inc is a middle-market to high-end home furnishings retailer operating more than a dozen stores in Iowa, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, and Wisconsin. HOM stores offer wooden (cherry, maple, oak, pine), upholstered (including leather), and patio furniture, as well as mattresses, area rugs, and other decorative accessories. Many locations also provide free design consultations to assist customers with buying decisions. In addition to its namesake chain, HOM operates Gabberts Design Studio & Fine Furnishings, based in Edina, Minnesota. HOM's retailing roots reach back to 1973, when CEO Wayne Johansen established JC Imports, the chain's forerunner.

Through four stores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, the company sells furniture for the bedroom, dining room, living room, and home office, as well as mattresses, rugs, and other decor. Founded in 1918 by Samuel Tatelman, Jordan's Furniture is owned by billionaire Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway.

Kirkland's, Inc. operates about 280 stores (down from 350 in 2007) in some 30 states, which stock decorative home accessories and gifts, including framed art, mirrors, candles, lamps, picture frames, artificial flowers, rugs, garden accessories, and coffee-table books. Kirkland's also offers holiday items during Christmas and Easter. Stores operate under the names Kirkland's and Kirkland's Home. It phased out several Briar Patch by Kirkland's locations in 2008. Kirkland's was founded in 1966 by Carl Kirkland.
