John T. Mather envisioned a legacy that would keep his community of Port Jefferson in good health. John T. Mather Memorial Hospital came to fruition in 1929, one year after it's namesake's death. The not-for-profit hospital has some 250 beds and provides a variety of health care services to the residents of Port Jefferson and Suffolk county. Services include emergency care, occupational therapy, psychiatry, and radiology. The hospital is a member of Long Island Health Network, an association of about a dozen affiliated hospitals all serving Long Island.

Established in 1773, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center has more than 700 beds. One of five member institutions in the Johns Hopkins Health System, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is a community teaching hospital. Its Baltimore-based operations include a neonatal intensive care unit, as well as centers devoted to trauma, geriatrics, sleep disorders, and weight management. It also features the state's only regional burn center. The facility includes a meditation labyrinth for patients, families, and staff to walk.

Established in 1956 as the convalescence center for a retirement village, the medical center was transformed into a full-service acute-care hospital in 1979.

The not-for-profit Kadlec Regional Medical Center, founded in 1944, has some 200 inpatient beds, including pediatrics and intensive, intermediate, and critical care capacity. Kadlec Regional Medical Center is an acute care hospital facility serving southeastern Washington and northeastern Oregon. In addition to providing comprehensive medical, surgical, and emergency services, the hospital operates a freestanding diagnostic center that features state-of-the-art imaging equipment. Other programs include neonatal intensive care, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, interventional cardiology, neurology, and cancer care.
