The Greek affiliate of UK-based wireless phone giant Vodafone Group, Vodafone-Panafon (also known as Vodafone Greece) offers mobile telecommunications services to about 4 million subscribers. PHS is a kind of stripped-down cellular service with relatively low charges; the technology was developed in Japan and most of its users live in Japan and China. A former subsidiary of KDDI, WILLCOM provides mobile service nationwide in Japan, serving more than 4 million subscribers. The Carlyle Group owns 60% of WILLCOM; Kyocera holds 30% and KDDI 10%. Burdened with debt of more than $2 billion, WILLCOM filed for bankruptcy protection from creditors in 2010.

Wireless phones have usurped Hermes' role as messenger to the Greeks, and WIND Hellas Telecommunications may need to sprout winged sandals of its own to keep up with market leader Hellenic Telecommunications (OTE). WIND Hellas provides mobile voice and data services to about 6 million consumer and business customers throughout Greece. The company enables international roaming in 155 countries for travelling subscribers through agreements with other carriers. It also provides cellular and satellite-based vehicle management and tracking services. WIND Hellas is owned by investment firm Weather Investments, a company led by Cairo-based Orascom Telecom's founder and chairman, Naguib Sawiris.

Wireless Xcessories Group dresses up cellular phones. The company markets and distributes about 3,000 accessory products for wireless phones and other portable devices. Decorative carrying cases, hands-free kits, rechargeable batteries, chargers, antennae, and other items are sold primarily in North America through retailers and distributors, and from its e-commerce Web site; a majority of its products are manufactured in China and Taiwan. Wireless Xcessories also offers ancillary products and services such as retail packaging, displays, posters, and marketing. In addition, the company distributes third-party cell phone products made by Motorola, Nokia, and other cell phone manufacturers.
