Palm, Inc.
Palm, once a leading provider of handheld computers, now develops and markets Internet-enabled mobile phones (known as smartphones). Its product line focuses on the Pre and Pixi wireless devices, which use Palm's webOS mobile operating system software. webOS is designed to wirelessly access the Web and take advantage of the phones' touchscreen interface. The company sells directly and through partnerships with such wireless carriers as AT&T, Sprint Nextel, and Verizon Wireless, as well as other distributors and retailers. While its products are sold globally, the majority of its revenue is made in the US. In 2010 Palm was acquired by top global computer maker Hewlett-Packard for about $1.2 billion.
