Sony Pictures Animation has declared open season on the animated feature film industry. As part of Sony Digital Production (along with special effects studio Sony Pictures Imageworks and digital marketing company Sony Pictures Imageworks Interactive), it has developed and produced several feature-length, computer-generated (CG or CGI) animated films including Open Season, Open Season 2, and Surf's Up. Sony Pictures Animation was formed in 2006 and is based in Culver City, California. Its films are released through Columbia Pictures, owned by parent company Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) is a movie-making monster. The producer of Godzilla is a unit of Sony Corporation of America, the US arm of Japanese electronics giant Sony. It operates Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, which includes Columbia Pictures (big budget films); Screen Gems (midsized budget); Sony Pictures Classics (small budget); and marketing and acquisitions unit TriStar Pictures. Its film library contains more than 3,500 titles, including classics such as Bridge on the River Kwai and Lawrence of Arabia. Other holdings include operations devoted to TV (Sony Pictures Television), DVDs (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment), digital production (Sony Digital Production), and online video (Crackle).

Splendid Medien AG is a holding company for a handful of subsidiaries and affiliates, such as movie acquisition and distribution company Splendid Film and video and DVD marketing arm Polyband. Splendid Television co-produces mini-series and TV movies, and Splendid Synchron dubs English-language films into German. Splendid Medien's library includes "Traffic, Dr. T and the Women", and "Shadow of the Vampire". The company was also involved in the production of the box office hits "Gangs of New York" and "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". CEO Andreas Klein owns more than half of Splendid Medien.

Spyglass Entertainment unleashes the voyeuristic tendencies of its movie-going audiences. The film studio is responsible for producing such hits as The Sixth Sense, Shanghai Noon, and Memoirs of a Geisha. More recent releases include Four Christmases and Star Trek. Spyglass funds three to four films a year and has had distribution or production deals with major studios such as Disney, Paramount, and Sony's Columbia TriStar. The company was founded in 1998 by veteran Hollywood producers Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum, who serve as co-chairmen and co-CEOs.

Staylor-Made Communications produces commercials, corporate videos, instructional DVDs, trade show presentations, video games, and Web sites used for training, marketing, and entertainment purposes. After planning and pre-production consulting with its clients, Staylor-Made takes footage using HD, Betacam, and film, and combines it with multimedia tools, such as graphics, animation, text, music, narration, and sound effects. Customers of the company include Honda, ResMed, Sharp, Sony, and Taco Bell. Projects have ranged from $200 to $200,000. President Jim Staylor, a writer and producer, founded Staylor-Made Communications in 1992.
