Philippine Airlines (PAL) flies the Philippine skies and beyond. Government-owned airline Garuda Indonesia flies passengers and cargo to more than 40 destinations, split evenly between domestic and international markets (primarily in the Asia/Pacific region). The carrier operates a fleet of about 50 aircraft, consisting mainly of Boeing models. Its low-fare CitiLink affiliate serves about half a dozen Indonesian locations. Garuda extends its international network via code-sharing relationships with several carriers. (Code-sharing allows airlines to sell tickets on one another's flights and thus offer passengers service to additional destinations.) Subsidiaries provide aircraft maintenance and ground-handling services.

Qantas Airways, Australia's #1 airline, flies to about 60 destinations at home and another 85-plus (including some served by code-sharing partners) in about 35 countries. (Code-sharing enables carriers to sell tickets on one another's flights and thus extend their networks.) Its airline operations include regional carrier QantasLink, as well as low-fare carrier Jetstar, both of which operate in Australia and elsewhere in the Asia/Pacific region. Overall, the Qantas fleet includes about 230 aircraft. Qantas is part of the Oneworld global airline alliance, which is led by British Airways (BA) and American Airlines. In late 2008 Qantas and BA began merger talks, but an agreement could not be reached.
