A leading technology-related professional group, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has more than 375,000 members, including some 80,000 students, in 160 countries. The IEEE provides technical and professional information to members on topics such as aerospace systems, biomedical engineering, computers, consumer electronics, electric power, and telecommunications. It sponsors more than 850 annual conferences and publishes a variety of technical literature, including journals, magazines, and conference proceedings. The IEEE was formed in 1964 in a combination of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (founded in 1884) and the Institute of Radio Engineers.
