The California Wellness Foundation

Health is wealth for The California Wellness Foundation. Its primary mission is to improve the health of the people of California. The foundation extends grants for health promotion, wellness education, and disease prevention. It focuses on underserved populations, including such groups as the poor, minority groups, and rural residents. On average, the foundation grants about $40 million a year toward programs in such areas as environmental health, healthy aging, mental health, teen pregnancy prevention, violence prevention, and women's health. The California Wellness Foundation was established in 1992 when Health Net (a health maintenance organization) converted to for-profit status.
