The Sports Turf Research Institute
The Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI) provides research and advisory services related to the installation and maintenance of grass and other turf surfaces at sporting venues. The Sports Turf Research Institute researches soil physics and chemistry, evaluates pesticides, and tests natural and artificial turf surfaces. Advisory services include architectural design, construction monitoring, and ecological and environmental impact assessments. Established in 1929 by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and the Home Golf Unions, STRI was initially focused on the care of golf greens, but has since expanded its expertise to surfaces used in other sports, including cricket, rugby, football, and tennis.
