YAI National Institute for People with Disabilities Network
The YAI National Institute for Disabilities Network (YAI/NIPD) serves developmentally and learning-disabled people and their families throughout Connecticut, New Jersey, the New York metropolitan area, Pennsylvania, and Puerto Rico. The nonprofit's services include health care, job training and placement, counseling, "overnight respite" for family caregivers, social activities, and summer camp programs. YAI National Institute for People with Disabilities Network also conducts research into the specific needs of individuals and families cooping with disability and provides public information about the capabilities of disabled people. YAI/NIPD was founded in 1957 as the Young Adult Institute, a social welfare agency for young adults with disabilities.
