Sterling Autobody Centers
Sterling Autobody Centers (formerly Sterling Collision Centers) is now in the "good hands" of Allstate. Sterling operates 60-plus body shops in about 15 states, repairing and restoring cars to their pre-accident glory. The repair chain was acquired by Allstate, a top car insurer in the US (along with rival State Farm) in 2001, an insurance-industry first. Sterling was founded in 1997 with cash from investment firms Conning Capital Partners and Berkshire Partners. The company grew through acquisitions to more than 30 shops in less than two years. Sterling now operates as a subsidiary of Allstate Non-Insurance Holdings.
