John Swire & Sons Limited involvement in a number of our key businesses extends back over many decades - years that represent the accumulation of real depth of experience and expertise. It is one of our principal strengths to be forward-looking and take a long term view when growing our business. Today Swire is a large and highly diversified group and, while not all of our staff may be familiar with our motto, the common thread that runs through all our different businesses is dedication to the ethos it enshrines: achieving operational excellence in everything we do. The Johnson Service Group's origins can be traced back to 1780. Our traditional textile-related businesses grew through the progressive amalgamation of a number of regional companies including Pullars, Zernys, Bollom, Crockatts, Smiths, Kneels, Harris Clean, Hartonclean and Johnsons. We entered the market for hospitality services through the acquisition of Stalbridge Linen Services in 1995, and achieved UK market leadership in textile rental through the acquisition of the Semara Group in 2000. At the beginning of 2005 we acquired the DCC Corporatewear business, focusing on the financial services and leisure sectors. In October 2005 we bought SGP Property Services, providing white-collar facilities management to the financial services and leisure sectors. Both businesses extended our service offerings and ideally complemented our established strengths in corporatewear for retailers and facilities management for the commercial office market.

We see ourselves as a global legal institution based on a set of principles to which a large number of men and women can commit – principles that have a social purpose and permanence, that transcend individual interests. While this may well be a more sociological description than you would see on most law firm web sites, and no doubt is subject to a skeptical reaction from many when they first read or hear it, we believe it accurately describes one important aspect of what makes Jones Day the client service organization that it is.

The Joseph Drown Foundation was formed in 1953 to provide an organized means for its founder, Joseph Warford Drown, to make charitable gifts during his lifetime and to have the Foundation continue making grants upon his death. Joseph Drown, whose life spanned the period of 1906 to 1982, was active in the hotel industry from his early 20's until the end of his career. He started as an employee, then in management and subsequently ownership. The Foundation attempts to reflect directly the interests of Joseph Drown by focusing its resources on the areas which particularly concerned him. These include education, medical and scientific research; community, health and social services and, to a lesser degree, the arts and humanities.
