With its abundant scenic beauty and a soothing climate,
Mizoram has a scope of developing tourist related industries.
Specific tourist projects can be developed to put Mizoram
on the tourist map of India.
Possible Developmental Avenues:
There are various possible developmental avenues in
tourism and related sector such as:
- Creation of facilities for:
- Cultural, adventure and wildlife, eco tourism,
etc
- Scenic spots
- Amusement parks, other leisure & entertainment
units (including sports, if any), of tourist interest.
- Health farms
- Hotels & Lodges
- Travel Agencies, tour operators, and tourist transport
services
- Convention/ Seminar Centers
Places of interest:
Aizawl:
- Capital Town at 4,000 ft above sea level, ideal
for a hill-resort characterised by:
- Cultural sub centre, with modern recreational
facilities
- State Museum
- Mini Zoo
- Shopping facilities and,
- Bung and Palkhai Gateway at 15 km
Tamdil:
- Lake, at 85 kms, from Aizawl near Saitual village
with Boating facilities
- Ideal picnic spot for development of fishing and
boating
Vantawng Falls:
- Largest waterfall in Mizoram at 750 ft. high, in
lush green surroundings
- Located 137 km from Aizawl, near Thenzawl town
- Viewing gallery is under consideration.
Champhai:
- Peeks into marvelous Myanmar hills, located 204
Km south of Aizawl and is also important commercial
center at Myanmar border.
Lunglei:
- Nature lovers paradise, 235 km south from Aizawl
Phawngpui:
- "The blue mountain" - Highest mountain
peak in Mizoramat 7100 ft.
- With fairy tale view of blue laved hills and vales
unfolding below, and wildlife-birds and animals both
Dampa Sanctuary:
- At Northwestern tip of Mizo hills
- Inhabited with swamp deer, tiger, leopard, elephant
and hoolock gibbon
- Has been declared Tiger Reserve
- Sanctuary not developed as tourist attraction
Palak Lake:
- Biggest lake in Mizoram surrounded by dense forests
- Abundant water birds and fish
- Not yet developed as tourist attraction
Reiek Hill:
- 35 km west of Aizawl
- Potential to develop into holiday resort with enormous
recreational facilities.
- Is connected by Lake
Potential sectors for Tourism development
in Mizoram:
- The Reiek Tourist Complex
- Creation of Holiday Resort/Homes/Cottages (already
under consideration)
- With variety indoor recreation facilities/ multiple
entertainment center.
- Ropeway to connect Aizawl and Reiek (to bear
heavy goods and passenger load) reducing the road
distances of 35 kms to 2/3 km.
- Create Crafts Village/Mizo Hat to include:
- Display and sale of local handicrafts
- Regional cuisine snack bars, set-up in ethnic
style
- Organise bi-weekly traditional dances, within
the complex.
- Mini shopping centre inside the complex to meet
tourist essential needs, like clothing, toiletries,
medicines etc.
- Resort to arrange for identified circuit tours
of 1 day and package tours also, providing facilities
for onward journey.
- Palak Lake Development
- Construction of black top approach road
- Facilities for boating and fishing to be developed
- Construction of pay-and-use toilet
- Dampa Sanctuary
- Develop complex with tree houses/cottages for
overnight halts
- Organise guided tour/safari within the sanctuary
as part of individual or entire safari circuit
- Vantawng Falls
- Develop an ideal leisure home in Thenzawl town
for elite tourist by constructing
- Mini golf course
- Well-equipped tourist cottages and cafeteria
- Village "Square" displaying arts and
crafts of the region.
Investment prospects in Tourism
sector:
- To develop central bus and Taxi terminal (CBT/CTT)
in Aizawl.
- Explore Kolodyne river for navigation purposes
- Explore Lawngtlai- Saiha ropeway possibility
- Setting up a movie theatre (one each) in Aizawl,
Lunglei, Saiha, Champhai to start with and identify
other possible locations.
- Fast food/multi-cuisine restaurant in major towns.
- River Rafting on Tlawng river between Reiek and
Bairabi.
