Reliance Jio rolls out iPhone 8 in India today; Tim Cook addresses event via video conference

Akash Ambani, Mukesh Ambani's son who also played a relevant role in rolling out JioPhone unveiled iPhone8 and 8 Plus in India today. The event held at Reliance Jio headquarters in Navi Mumbai.
Reliance Industries' chairman, Mukesh Ambani and CEO of Apple, Tim Cook addressed the event via video messages.
Under the new iPhone plan, Jio is offering 90 GB of data per month. The plan can be availed by both prepaid and postpaid customers. Buyers will also get Rs 10,000 cashback on the day of the launch, when they use a Citibank Credit Card to purchase the phone.
Jio had also enabled its customers to pre-book these iPhones from its website and the Jio stores.
The newly launched iPhones will be available for purchase from September 29 onwards at a starting price of Rs 64,000. The iPhone X will be available from November 3, roughly after two weeks of Diwali at a starting price of Rs 89,000.
Earlier this month, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were revealed during the 10th Apple anniversary. The devices are more or less resemble to iPhone 7, however, the new offerings come with a glass back for wireless charging, which Apple claims is the most durable glass ever in a smartphone.
iPhone 8 will come in 3 colours, Silver, space grey and new gold finish. There will be a 4.7" display in the 8 and 5.5" display in the Plus variant.

Amid the Diwali celebration in the national capital, Delhi fire services received a record 400 calls of fire incidents on Friday, 80 more than the day before, making it the highest number of calls received within 24 hours.
According to Delhi Fire Services, they received 320 calls on October 31 and 400 calls on November 1.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the recently appointed chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has announced the Hindu-only staff policy in Tirumala, whereas the NDA government at the Centre wants to induct non-Muslims in Waqf Boards.

The ruling CPI(M) in Kerala on Saturday took a dig at the BJP, which is in a tough situation following a former party functionary's revelations about the 2021 Kodakara black money case, by saying that it should "change its party symbol from lotus to a sack".

The Congress on Saturday called for a probe into alleged "blackmail" and "coercion" used to bring NCP leader Ajit Pawar into the NDA fold and said the BJP's "washing machine" was nowhere more powerful than in Maharashtra.

The US has imposed sanctions on 275 individuals and entities, including 15 from India, for allegedly supporting Russia's military-industrial base.
As per the list released by the Department of Treasury, the India-based companies are Abhar Technologies and Services Private Limited; Denvas Services Private Limited; Emsystech; Galaxy Bearings Ltd; Orbit Fintrade LLP; Innovio Ventures; KDG Engineering Private Limited; and Khushbu Honing Private Limited.
