Bharti Infratel to go ahead with long delayed merger with Indus Towers

Bharti Infratel Ltd will go ahead with its long-delayed merger with Indus Towers, the telecom infrastructure firm said on Tuesday.

Infratel will be a majority shareholder in the merged entity with a likely stake of 68.6%, while London-listed Vodafone Group Plc will hold 28.2%, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Japan on Monday said it will extend emergency loan support of upto 50 billion yen towards India's response to the Covid-19 pandemic that includes implementation of health and medical policy.

Additional Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs of Finance Ministry, CS Mohapatra and Japanese ambassador Suzuki Satoshi exchanged notes here on Monday, concerning the provision of the yen loan to New Delhi to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

It would be more practical for the Centre to take loans to pay off the GST compensation amount to states, said Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel demanding Rs 2,828 crores for Chhattisgarh for the same for 2020-21.

The Chief Minister wrote to Union Finance Minister over the issue and said that the Centre should take loans to pay off the states instead of advising states to take loan, he also added that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) provides loans at varying rates to different states, which could lead to disparity, thereby urging the Centre to do the needful.

Reliance Jio on Monday announced new plans for JioFiber broadband starting at a monthly price of Rs 399 with no limit on data usage. According to the new plans, entertainment app Netflix is added to the bouquet of bundled apps for customers subscribing to mid-range plans. It is by far the lowest price for broadband services.

The plans will be rolled out from September 1 onwards, said Reliance Jio.

The central government on Monday announced that on account of the death of former president of India Pranab Mukherjee, seven days of state morning will be observed throughout India from August 31 to September 6, inclusive of both these dates as a mark of respect to the departed dignitary. During the period of state mourning, the national flag will fly at half-mast on all buildings throughout India, where it is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment. A release by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) also stated that the date, time, and venue of the State Funeral will be intimated later.
