Young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant hit an unbeaten 89 runs off 138 balls to help India register a historic win against Australia on Day 5 of the fourth Test match, at The Gabba in Brisbane. With this three-wicket win, Ajinkya Rahane-led side succeeded in retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and won the four-match Test series 2-1.

During the post-match ceremony, Pant said, "This is one of my biggest days in life. The support the team has given me even when I was not playing has been incredible. It's a dream come true. We've been practicing hard after the first Test. The team management always backs me and tells me you are match-winner and you have to go out there and win and I am happy I did it today. It was a fifth day pitch and the ball was turning."

It is to be noted that Pant hit 97 runs during the third Test match, which helped India secure a crucial a draw at the Sydney Cricket Ground. "I keep thinking every day that I want to win matches for India, and I did it today," the southpaw added.

Also revealing about the pitch condition, Pant said, "It was a fifth-day pitch and the ball was turning a bit. I thought I have to be disciplined with my shot selection."

India started Day 5 slowly with opener Rohit Sharma returning to pavilion cheaply. After Sharma's departure, 21-year-old Shubman Gill held the fort for he visitor and smashed 91 runs off 146 balls.

Cheteshwar Pujara once again showed why he is an important part of Indian Test side as he hit 56 runs off 211 balls. Ajinkya Rahane (24) and Washington Sundar (22) also joined the party.

For the home side, Pat Cummins claimed four wickets and off-spinner Nathan Lyon grabbed two wickets.
