Calcutta: Coal India has registered a 16.7 per cent growth in production in April along with rising offtake and increased rake loading.

The coal mining public sector undertaking produced 44.84 million tonnes (mt) of coal in April 2018, an increase of 6.4mt compared with 38.44mt produced in April 2017.

After postponing the introduction of the new Gross Calorific Value (GCV)-based billing mechanism for consumers, earlier scheduled for this month, Coal India is expected have the new system in place by July.

The government-owned behemoth was to have switched to charging of consumers on this globally adopted system from April 1. Issues related to sampling and the billing procedure forced a postponement by a fiscal quarter.

New Delhi: Senior bureaucrat Suresh Kumar on Monday assumed the additional charge as chairman and managing director (CMD) of state-owned Coal India Ltd.

With Cabinet approving exploration and exploitation of coal bed methane (CBM) gas from areas under coal mining lease allotted to Coal India, the PSU mining major may soon conduct a global search for an experienced developer, sources told DNA Money.
