Puneeth was One of the most popular actors in Kannada cinema and Indian cinema.

Puneeth was a lead actor in 29 films; as a child, he appeared in many films.

Puneeth won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for his role of Ramu in Bettada Hoovu.

Puneeth married Ashwini Revanth from Chikmagalur on 1 December 1999. They met through a common friend, and had two daughters Drithi and Vanditha.

On 29 October 2021, Puneeth complained of uneasiness to his wife Ashwini, and died on his way to the hospital at the age of 46. The reason for his death was declared to be cardiac arrest.
