New Delhi: Tata Motors on Monday launched automated manual transmission (AMT) versions of its compact sedan Tigor with price starting at Rs 6.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The company has introduced two variants under its Tigor AMT range - XMA and XZA+, priced at Rs 6.39 lakh and Rs 7.24 lakh, respectively, Tata Motors said in a statement.

Tata Motors Finance Solutions has extended a loan of `40 crore to Ola Fleet Technologies, the cab-leasing subsidiary of Ola, according to documents sourced from business signals platform paper.vc. The loan amount will be used for the purchase of Neo electric vehicles by the company on commercial registration, the documents showed.

Reporting its first profit for financial year 2018-2019, Tata Motors on Monday recorded a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,108.86 crore for the three months of January-March 2019.

However, the ongoing stress in the China market for the company’s cash cow, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), meant it came in almost half of what it was in the quarter ended March 31, 2018. The net profit was, however, much above the Bloomberg consensus estimates of Rs 570 crore.

NEW DELHI: Automaker Tata Motors swung to profit in the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2019. The automaker reported a net profit of ₹1,117 crore while revenues declined 4% year-on-year to ₹86,422 crore.

Tata Motors had posted a loss for the third-quarter, hurt by an impairment charge for its luxury car unit Jaguar Land Rover. The automaker's loss came at ₹26,993 crore for the three months ended 31 December.

One of the most famous advertising campaigns in the Indian commercial vehicle (CV) industry is ‘Tata Ka Chota Hathi’, which Tata Motors used as a branding for the Ace light CV (LCV) launched in 2005. The campaign connected well with the product—a reference to its compact size, yet superior strength to carry goods—and the customers. Because of the inherent strengths of the product and because there wasn’t an equally good last-mile transportation LCV in the market, the Ace was a runaway success—the Ace family, comprising of eight models, has sold over 23 lakh units.

Chinese automaker Chery Automobiles is reportedly keen on a joint venture with Tata Motors for an India entry.

State-owned Chery already has a JV with Tata Motors-owned Jaguar and Land Rover to make cars in China. The partnership was formed in 2012 and helped Jaguar Land Rover open their first assembly facility in Changshu, China in October 2014.

Auto major Tata Motors may phase out small diesel cars from its portfolio as demand is expected to slow down due to upcoming BS-VI emission norms that would make such vehicles expensive, according to a senior company official.

Already, market leader Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has stated that it would discontinue diesel models from April 1, 2020, when the BS-VI norms kick in, as it expects the increased cost would put most of the diesel cars, especially the smaller ones, out of reach of small car buyers.

Tata Motors on Thursday reported a 20 per cent decline in total sales during April at 42,577 units as compared with 53,511 units in the same month last year.

The company’s passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market declined by 26 per cent to 12,694 units last month as compared with 17,235 units in April 2018.

Hyundai Motor India is eyeing a leadership position in the compact SUV segment in the country with its upcoming model Venue, a top company official said.

The company will face stiff competition in the sub-4 metre compact SUV segment from the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Motors Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Honda WR-V.

The government may blacklist Tata Motors for delaying delivery of e-buses to transport departments of six cities, according to the Economic Times. The report quoted unnamed officials as saying that the automobile major might have failed to deliver the buses on time due to battery issues and delays in manufacturing.

As reported earlier by Business Standard, Tata Motors had won tenders to supply buses to Lucknow, Jammu, Kolkata, Indore, Guwahati and Jaipur under the first phase of a programme to promote the use of electric vehicles in cities.
