As the automotive industry faces its worst slowdown in the past two decades, Anand Mahindra, chairman, M&M, has sought a re-look at the vehicle registration fees and rollback of increase in road tax of state governments after the introduction of goods and services tax (GST).

Mahindra & Mahindra on Wednesday reported a 52.56 per cent decline in consolidated profit after tax to Rs 894.11 crore in the first quarter ended June 30, hit by lower vehicle sales.

The company had posted a consolidated profit after tax of Rs 1,884.66 crore in the same quarter of the previous financial year, Mahindra & Mahindra said in a regulatory filing.

Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) reported a decline of 16% year-on-year (YoY) in its total domestic wholesales to 37,434 units in July, as the economic downturn continues to hurt the auto industry.

The company’s passenger vehicle wholesales fell 15% YoY to 16,831 units during the month, while commercial vehicle sales declined 17% to 15,969 units.

The complete collapse in automobile sales has left many perplexed, with volumes expected to clock a modest 3-5% growth in the new fiscal. In the first three months of the financial year, passenger vehicle sales declined by 18.42%.

While several factors have come together to contribute to the sharp decline in sales, Mahindra & Mahindra managing director Pawan Goenka is of the view that it is hard to point to any one reason that can possibly explain the industry’s worst show in 18 years.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) will increase the prices of its passenger vehicles (PVs) by up to Rs 36,000, effective July 1, on account of new safety features provided to comply with the automotive industry standard (AIS) 145 norms.

As per the AIS 145 norms, cars will have to be equipped with safety features, including overspeed alert, seat belt warning, airbags, speed warning and reverse parking assist.

New Delhi: Auto major Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Wednesday said it will hike price of its range of personal vehicles by up to Rs 36,000 across models with effect from July 1.

"This price increase is due to the implementation of AIS 145 safety norms across all passenger vehicles in India," the company said in a BSE filing.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and Ford India will jointly develop nine sports utility vehicles (SUVs) starting 2020, with a combined investment of over $600 million (`4,300 crore approx), people aware of the development said.

While six models, including compact and large size SUVs, will be shared by both the companies under a rebadging format, three will be made exclusively for Ford, which will be used by the company in both India and export markets.

Homegrown auto major Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Saturday said it will shut production across plants for up to 13 days in the ongoing quarter to adjust to market demand.

The company would be observing no production days during the first quarter ranging between 5-13 days across its automotive and farm equipment sector plants, M&M said in a regulatory filing.

MUMBAI: Mahindra and Mahindra is ready to roll out its Bharat Stage VI or BS-VI emission norm compliant diesel vehicles next year and its petrol range over the next two-three months.

The Mumbai-based automaker alone has invested over Rs 1,000 crore in developing its product range to conform to BS VI norms, apart from big investments also from its component suppliers.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), which on Wednesday reported a 19.85% decline in its standalone profit after tax (PAT) to Rs 848.81 crore for the fourth quarter, has earmarked an investment of around Rs 18,000 crore for the next three years. This includes Rs 12,000 crore in capital expenditure and another Rs 6,000 crore in investment towards product development and newer technologies, among others.
