UCSD Medical Center, part of the University of California, San Diego, is an acute-care teaching hospital that provides a comprehensive range of health services to residents of the San Diego area. UCSD Medical Center's facilities consist of UCSD Thornton Hospital in La Jolla and UCSD Medical Center Hillcrest (with a combined 500 beds), as well as several area primary and specialty outpatient clinics. Services provided by the medical center and its affiliates include general medicine, trauma care, women's health, infant care, oncology, and ophthalmology. The medical center is also home to specialty centers for neurosurgery, orthopedics, and transplantation, and it has extensive academic and research programs.
