Companhia do Metropolitano de Sao Paulo - Metro is part of Brazil's underground. It operates the subway system serving the Sao Paulo, Brazil, metropolitan area. Often referred to as simply the Sao Paulo Metro or the Metro, the mass transit system consists of about 40 miles of track, runs on four lines, and operates some 55 underground and above ground stations. In service since 1974, the Metro moves more than three million passengers each day. German rail transport and logistics giant Deutsche Bahn acquired the company in 2007 and integrated the company with its DB Schenker unit. DB Schenker Rail UK (formerly English Welsh & Scottish Railway) serves as the backbone of the UK's freight rail. Volumes for FEC exceeded 118,000 in 2007. FEC also serves five (5) intermodal terminals with volumes for 2007 exceeding 300,000 units.
