Brand names include bareMinerals, Buxom, md formulations, RareMinerals, and its namesake line. Bare Escentuals sells its products in the US through about 100 company-owned shops, 800 beauty product retailers, and 1,500 spas and salons. It also has distributors in Canada, Japan, and the UK, among other European countries. Formerly STB Beauty, the company changed its name to Bare Escentuals in 2006.

Baxter of California is embraced worldwide by well-groomed male Baby Boomers. Named for Baxter Finley, who founded the company in the mid-1960s and sold it to president and CEO Jean-Pierre Mastey in 2000, the firm makes men's grooming products for shaving, skin care, anti-aging, and hair and body. It's one of the first personal care products companies to cater exclusively to men. Baxter of California products are sold in spas, salons, and specialty stores such as American Male and the UK's House of Fraser. The company rounds out its personal care products with apparel, candles, and grooming accessories.

BeautiControl has a firm grip on the business of aesthetics and enjoys calling Texas home, alongside direct-selling rival Mary Kay. A subsidiary of household products maker Tupperware Brands Corporation, BeautiControl sells its beauty care items to its 1.1 million independent sales consultants, who in turn sell to consumers in 23 markets worldwide. Consultants provide computer-assisted, head-to-toe makeup advice through in-home demos. Its products include skin and nail care, fragrances, cosmetics, toiletries, nutritional and weight-management food supplements, and in-home spa retreats. Tupperware purchased BeautiControl in 2000 in a bid to expand its direct-selling reach to beauty and personal care products.

Beiersdorf is a master of soft sell. Its NIVEA line of skin care products (#1 in Europe) helped the company expand into color cosmetics and shaving products. Other body care brands include such items as Labello, 8x4, Florena, JUVENA, and la prairie. Beiersdorf also makes and markets bandages, surgical gloves, disinfectants, and dermatological skin care products (such as Hansaplast and Eucerin). Under the tesa name, it offers tapes and adhesives for home, office, and industrial settings. German insurer Allianz sold its 44% of Beiersdorf to coffee and cigarette firm Tchibo Holding, to add to Tchibo's 30%. Chairman Rolf Kunisch retired in May 2008; Thomas-Bernd Quaas replaced him.
