The technologies mainly are used in petroleum-derived products and chemicals (such as ethylene and propylene), but also in the manufacture of products further downstream like plastics, detergents, and fibers. Three-quarters of the world's ethylene production is made using UOP technologies. UOP also produces catalysts, alumina adsorbents (used to purify gas and dry air), and molecular sieves. Until 2005 it had been a joint venture of Honeywell and Union Carbide (which is owned by Dow Chemical).

Van Diest Supply Company has tied itself up with a corn belt. The agricultural chemical distributor and maker sells its wares under the Corn Belt Products brand name. Those wares include herbicides, pesticides, adjuvants (which enhance the properties of herbicides and pesticides), and spray drift management products (which keep the herbicides and pesticides where they're intended to be and not drifting off to harm the surrounding environment). With a fleet of about 200 trucks and pickups, Van Diest ships its products from about a dozen distribution centers spread throughout an 18-state area of the Midwest. The family-operated company was founded by president Bob Van Diest in 1956.

Van Horn, Metz & Co. was founded in 1950 by Harold Van Horn and Donald Metz. The company was designed to offer raw materials for industry use. These are now sold by VHM's salesforce from Maine southward to Florida and Westward to Missouri. VHM has grown to include 12 warehouses and 6 sales offices strategically located throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, South, and Ohio Valley regions.
