The Economical Insurance Company is one of the last mutuals left in Canada. Founded in 1871, the company provides property and casualty policies to individuals and businesses from more than 15 offices in six Canadian provinces. The company operates as a group of member companies, one of which, Missisquoi Insurance, has been in operation since 1835. Group member The Mattei Companies underwrites commercial insurance in the US. The company distributes its products through some 900 independent insurance brokers.

The Fuji Fire and Marine Insurance Company offers property/casualty insurance including automobile, medical, personal accident, and other lines, as well as life insurance, offered through its Fuji Life subsidiary. The company sells to individuals and to businesses and their employees, and operates "walk-in" insurance retail stores. The Fuji Fire and Marine Insurance Company has roots that run back to 1918, when Nippon Kan-i Kasai Insurance was established as a specialist fire insurer.

The Hanover Insurance company operates through a handful of property/casualty insurance companies, of which Hanover Insurance Company is the largest. Hanover offers personal and commercial insurance, including automobile, homeowners, workers' compensation, and commercial multiple-peril insurance coverage. While the company is licensed to sell its products in all 50 states, its network of independent agents is concentrated in the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeastern US. Citizens Insurance Company of America, which sold the first auto insurance policy in the US, is Hanover's sister company operating in Michigan.

The Hartford Financial Services Group is an insurer with a range of personal and commercial life and property/casualty insurance products. Through its Hartford Life subsidiary, the company offers individual and group life insurance and annuities, as well as the financial services mentioned in its name (asset management, retirement plans, and mutual funds). Its property/casualty operations include both personal (homeowners, auto) and business coverage (workers' compensation) and specialty commercial coverage for large companies. The Hartford, in business since 1810, sells its products through about 11,000 independent agencies and more than 100,000 registered broker-dealers.

Its member companies are flagship Insurance Company of the West (licensed in about 50 states), Explorer Insurance (about 20 states), and Independence Casualty and Surety (Texas and select other states). The companies have offices in about a dozen states, mostly California and Texas. ICW Group is a subsidiary of Western Insurance Holdings.
