St. Luke's Episcopal Health System cares for Lone Star Staters through flagship St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, which performed the first heart transplant in the US. St. Luke's Episcopal Health System also operates smaller area hospitals, the Texas Heart Institute, a network of community clinics, and other specialized services in and around Houston. Founded in 1954, the system has some 950 beds and a medical staff of more than 600 doctors. The company's physicians provide more than 20 clinical services in more than 40 specialties.
