Hamot Health Foundation
The original Hamot Hospital opened in 1881 on the old Hamot family homestead, with five rooms and the capacity for 25 patients. Adventurous Frenchmen know the value of good medical care; Pierre S.V. Hamot felt absolutely "Erie" without it. Hamot Health Foundation (named for the wealthy immigrant merchant) is a not-for-profit health organization serving residents of northwestern Pennsylvania, western New York, and eastern Ohio. The flagship facility in this health system is the Hamot Medical Center, a tertiary-care hospital with about 350 beds. Hamot has an extensive residency program in a number of specialties, including a school of anesthesia run in cooperation with Gannon University.
