Network Rail took over the UK's railways with backing from the government in 2002 from insolvent Railtrack Group. Network Rail Infrastructure has taken charge of the UK's rail infrastructure. We have also worked hard towards improving train service punctuality and reliability which has culminated in the consistent achievement of record levels of performance, the latest of which was 95% of every Southern train, every day, reaching its destination on time over a four-week period.

As of December 31, 2009, it operates approximately 21,000 miles in 22 states and the District of Columbia. The company was founded in 1883 and is based in Norfolk, Virginia.
